ONE STOP RATINGS THE WINNERS ARE THERE!

On Wednesday one of our esteemed members Clive pointed out that he had achieved the dreaded 007 on his ITV7 that evening.

This is what he said:

I tried something different today using a mix of One Stop ratings, Timeform ratings, Geegeez racecards, Racing Post, Oddschecker and a few other trusted sites and got my first ever grand slam. 0 winners, 0 placed and 7 unplaced!!! Back to the trusty pin I think.

On a personal note I use a mixture of One Stop Ratings combined with a quick look at the horse’s form (I use the Racing Post for this) and I didn’t fare much better, I did find one winner and scored 106.

This got me thinking surely with a bit of effort we could have fared better using One Stop Ratings.

An analysis of the 7 races revealed that 6 of the winners should have been shortlisted if taking into account all 4 of our ratings (LR, HS, SR and OSR).

LET’S TAKE A LOOK.

In this race both myself and Clive selected The Big Jetaway (top on SR and OSR) who finished third.

The winner IDEM was second ranked on OSR but top ranked on LR and HS.

Here both myself and Clive selected Park Street (top on LR, HS and LR) who finished a lowly 7th.

The winner DANDY’S ANGEL was top ranked on OSR.

My selection here was DARKEST DAY who was top ranked on HS and LR, he was my sole winner of the night.

Clive selected Zamond who was top ranked on OSR, Zamond pulled up.

Here we both plumped for the third home Bay Of Naples who was top ranked on LR, HS and OSR.

The winner here FRANKENDAEL was top ranked on SR.

Here we were in agreement again both selecting Sebastopol another that achieved third place, the winner GLINGER FLAME would have made the shortlist by being in the top 3 on OSR and second ranked on SR.

Here we both selected Getaway Luv, my reason was purely because I didn’t like the look of any of the others, Clive no doubt had his own reasons. The winner HIDDEN COMMANDER should have been shortlisted for having the top SR rating.

This race is one I wouldn’t normally touch with a bargepole and I went for Bishops Hill purely because the full set of ratings gave him a good profile. Colin was on Cailin Ibrean.

The winner YOUGOGLENCOKO had only one thing going for it, the jockey and trainer combination of McCain and Hughes.

CONCLUSION

The ITV7 is often made up of races you would normally avoid for example that last race bumper and all those races with less than 8 runners, Clive found 3 third places and I myself found 4 but they didn’t count.

That said the winners in most cases were there to be found if only a shortlist had been made for each race.

How you make your shortlist is entirely up to you, but going forward I will be including the top 3 ranked on OSR plus and top ranked horses that are outside the top 3.

When we get more competitive racing and bigger fields I will likely extend that to a minimum of the top 4 on OSR plus all horses within 50 of the top ranked on OSR as from experience the majority of winners are in there somewhere.
